Female Sexual Health: Urinary Incontinence, Dryness, Painful Intercourse

Some of the most common questions we get about female sexual health are: Can I be intimate again? Will I enjoy intimacy again? Will I always be dealing with urinary incontinence? These concerns often specifically revolve around urinary incontinence, vaginal dryness, and painful intercourse. Addressing these concerns are important to us, so here’s a quick breakdown that illustrates exactly what we do to empower women in the sexual health space.

The Fight Against Urinary Incontinence, Vaginal Dryness, and Painful Intercourse: We’re Here to Help You

Over 43% of women self-report some degree of sexual dysfunction(vaginal dryness, urinary incontinence, painful intercourse…etc) (Cleveland Clinic), though the true number of people suffering from a sexual dysfunction issue is estimated to be much higher.

Women begin to notice changes in their bodies in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. This is known as menopause, and happens because our bodies slow or stop the production of vital hormones (progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, etc.). These hormones are crucial for good sexual health; without them, women can experience painful intercourse, vaginal dryness, or even urinary incontinence. Plus, restricted blood flow can and repeated vaginal childbirths can be a big factor for women.

We understand how such a personal thing can hamper your most intimate relationships. For you, feelings of stress, embarrassment, inadequacy, anxiety, fear, disappointment, or frustration often take center stage. But this is also tough on your partner.

But we’re here for both of you. By confiding in our providers, we can approach the problem together. It is possible to be intimate again!

How We Support You in Dealing with Urinary Incontinence, Vaginal Dryness, and Painful Intercourse

We understand the feelings you have and are here to reassure you that you can build a greater bond and connection with your significant other again that leads to greater intimacy and sexual satisfaction.

  • Listening to your concerns and struggles openly and without judgment
  • Investigating possible hormonal limitations(testosterone, progesterone, estrogen) that may be inhibiting your intimacy
  • Offering women 3 treats that can help rejuvenate and enhance their womanhood and sexual satisfaction

Research has found that non-optimal hormone levels, specifically testosterone, progesterone, and estrogen directly impact your energy, mood, libido, and ability to enjoy intercourse. For women, this means your vaginal walls will become thin, dry, or inflamed without healthy estrogen levels (which leads to female sexual dysfunction). This is why we recommend a comprehensive bloodwork panel so that we can evaluate and address these underlying issues and create a solid foundation for good sexual health.

Female Sexual Health: What is diVa?

Vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, and urinary incontinence are three of the most common problems reported by women after childbirth, episiotomies, and menopause. These changes can happen slowly or quickly, and often have a huge, negative impact on their self-image, health, and relationships. This is where diVa, a confidential and safe laser vaginal rejuvenation treatment, steps in to help.

diVa™ is the first and only revolutionary Hybrid Fractional Laser (HFL) for vaginal health. It uses two wavelengths to resurface the tissue and stimulate new collagen growth. It is this new collagen growth that helps improve optimal blood flow and lubrication to help improve the following:

  • Vaginal Laxity (looseness)
  • Vaginal Drying
  • Loss of Bladder Control (Urinary Incontinence)
  • Scar Tissue from an Episiotomy
  • Painful Intercourse
  • Post-Menopausal Symptoms
  • Lack of Libido
  • Decreased Sexual Satisfaction
  • Intimacy Challenges

diVaTyte Vaginal Therapy is an additional treatment used to tighten the skin around the vaginal opening and vaginal folds (or lips) with no downtime.

We hear it almost every day – “You saved my marriage.” Unlike many other practices, we focus on all aspects of sexual health – energy, mood, desire, erectile dysfunction, vaginal dryness, and urinary incontinence – to help you reignite the passion you once had with your significant other. You can be intimate again – and enjoy it!

The easiest way to get started is to fill out a health history form. Our providers will look over your goals and health history before contacting you to get your initial bloodwork scheduled.

O-Shot, Diva & DivaTyte

There are 3 steps to the treatment:

  1. A small amount of numbing medicine is injected and additional numbing cream is applied to the vagina to limit discomfort.
  2. Blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge. Just like any other blood draw, this blood sample will be taken from your arm. The blood sample will be put in a specialized machine to extract growth factors from your blood. A few drops of calcium chloride solution are added, tricking the platelets into thinking the body is injured. This releases and activates 8 growth factors that normally help heal wounds.
  3. The growth factors are injected into the clitoris and upper vagina. Because these areas have been numbed, you will feel little or no discomfort.

How Long Does One Treatment Take?

Typical treatments take about 20 minutes, however, the entire treatment session will take about an hour.

How Many Treatments are Recommended?

While one treatment may be all that is needed for one woman, another woman may desire additional treatments for further amplification. It is recommended to have maintenance treatments every year.

What Should I Expect After the Treatment? How Long Will it Take to Recover?

This is a quick, usually painless, non-surgical procedure with virtually no downtime. Some women experience an immediate increase in sensitivity, but most women note a gradual increase over several weeks.

Why diVa? Why Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation Therapy?

  • Customization – as the world’s first HFL for laser vaginal rejuvenation therapy, it’s able to be customized for your specific needs
  • Full coverage – using the only high precision automated handpiece that automatically rotates 360 degrees, it ensures full coverage of the vaginal canal
  • Minimal user error – other services require manual manipulation of the handpiece, but diVa is automatic and thus reduces chance of error
  • Shorter treatment – the automation turns diVa into a 3-5 minute procedure vs. other services that require 30-40 minutes
  • Comfortable and hygienic – the strengthened quartz dilator ensures comfort and no cross-contamination between patients

What are the Treatment Areas?

diVa Tyte Vaginal Therapy treatments are safe for all skin colors and are performed on targeted structures of the vaginal opening and vaginal folds.

What Does the Treatment Feel Like?

The diVaTyte light energy is delivered in a sequence of rapid, gentle pulses. Typically, a topical anesthetic is not used, however, our medical provider may choose to use one on more sensitive areas. A series of pulses will be repeated over the treatment area to ensure the best results.

How Long Does One Treatment Take?

While treatment areas can vary, the treatment usually lasts between 10-20 minutes.

How Many Treatments are Recommended?

Typically, 3-5 treatment sessions are recommended to achieve maximum collagen-rebuilding and skin-firming, however, our medical providers will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan. Clients may see immediate firming results right after treatment, but the full effect of improvement is achieved several months after treatment as collagen continues to rebuild.

What Should I Expect After the Treatment? How Long Will it Take to Recover?

The diVaTyte treatment is non-invasive, so there is no downtime. Clients can immediately resume their normal activities with no visible signs of treatment. Mild redness may be experienced in the treated area, but this will fade away within minutes post-treatment. A home skin care regimen may also be recommended by the provider.

Am I Able to Have Other Laser or Light Treatments?

Yes, the most common treatment done in conjunction with diVa Tyte is diVa™.  diVa is the first and only revolutionary Hybrid Fractional Laser (HFL) technology that resurfaces and improves the quality of vaginal tissue. diVa can be performed on women of all ages, and is most commonly used to treat vaginal laxity (looseness), vaginal atrophy (thinning, drying, and inflammation of the vaginal walls), urinary incontinence, scar tissue from an episiotomy, and painful intercourse.

Our typical patient comes to us between the ages of 30-65 with symptoms that are preventing them from enjoying intercourse or the intimacy that goes along with it. Most patients don’t speak up when they first experience symptoms and instead wait in silence and hope for the best. If this sounds like you, we can help. Not only can our treatments help manage existing symptoms, but by starting hormone therapy when your first symptoms develop, we can help mitigate them before they become big problems in the bedroom.
