Botox & Dysport
What is Botox?
Botox is a purified biologic toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. We offer two different brands of Botulinum Toxin: Botox® and Dysport®. When either of these is injected into a specific muscle, it weakens the muscle for improved muscle relaxation and improved facial lines (which are caused by aging, sun damage, heredity, and gravity).
There are 2 steps to the treatment:
- Attend an initial complimentary consultation. Our certified injectors will discuss your desires, the estimated amount of Botox® / Dysport® needed, and provide a general estimate of the treatment cost. They will then work with you to create an individualized treatment plan.
- Get the treatment! With an established plan, our provider will use a fine needle to inject the Botox® / Dysport® into a specific muscle.
What are the Treatment Areas?
Botox® / Dysport® is FDA-approved for the treatment of muscle spasms, strabismus (crossed eyes), blepharospasm (eye twitching), axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweat), and the glabella (frown lines in between eyebrows). Other areas that can be treated off-label by Botox® / Dysport® include forehead lines, crow’s feet, under the eye, bunny lines, eyebrow dropping, smile lines, lines around the mouth, chin dimpling, gummy smiles, and vertical neck prominences.
How Long Does One Treatment Take?
The treatment will take less than 30 minutes and requires no downtime.
How Many Treatments are Recommended?
Botox is not permanent, but the results can last between 3-6 months.
What Should I Expect After the Treatment? How Long Will it Take to Recover?
Once Botox® / Dysport® is injected, improvement of the lines can be apparent after 2-3 days, and the peak effect is reached in 7-14 days. The most common side effect is bruising, and Aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications may increase this risk. Temporarily discontinuing these medications ten days prior to the Botox® / Dysport® injection may help decrease these symptoms. Minimal redness and swelling are expected, and these symptoms may be relieved by applying ice to the area. Very rarely, the Botox® / Dysport® may cause temporary drooping of the eyelid (ptosis). This can be minimized by not touching/rubbing the site of injection and maintaining an upright position post-injection.
