Urinary Incontinence occurs in a few forms. Some women lose urine while coughing, sneezing, or running called stress incontinence. Others have urge incontinence where they feel a strong urge to urinate just before losing urine. Some women experience both stress and urgency incontinence. Regardless of what form, urinary incontinence can be quite bothersome.
Childbirth can contribute to incontinence as it stretches the vaginal tissue. With repeated childbirths, the vaginal tissue may not return to its’ pre-childbirth state resulting in a loss of vaginal tone. Another contributing factor is the weakening of the pelvic floor muscles as women age. These muscles are unable to contract as strongly as they use to, contributing to the loss of urine.
