What You Need to Know Before Trying the Halo Laser

By Kaitlyn Hunter, MedSpa Nurse Practitioner

Radiant, smooth skin is something everyone dreams of during summer. From family picnics to friends’ weddings to vacation getaways, we all want to have bright, smooth, and acne-free skin. That’s why I’m here to let you in on a beauty care secret: a new treatment called Halo.

Halo is an incredible laser treatment – more detailed Halo information can be found here – that we recently brought in-office for our patients. If you’re like many of the patients who come to see us, you probably have noticed a few things creep up on your skin over the years:

  • Deep fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Facial scars
  • Sun damage
  • Redness or rosy cheeks

Plus, Halo is a great alternative for those who’ve tried peels or other light-based treatments but find they need deeper targeting for the results they want to see. (Peels and treatments like BBL Acne and BBL Anti-Aging are a good place to start if you want a more surface-level treatment or are new to skincare.)

What to expect during a Halo treatment

When you come to our MedSpa, the first thing we’ll do is cleanse your skin and then apply a topical numbing cream over the treatment area. The cream will stay on your skin for about an hour before we start the treatment to ensure minimal discomfort.

During the treatment itself, we’ll give you special eyewear goggles to protect your eyes from the light. You won’t be able to see anything, but you will be able to feel the device as it rolls across your skin over the next 10-20 minutes.

Many patients will tell you that Halo doesn’t hurt, however, you will feel your skin heat up gradually during the treatment. This is normal and what we want to get the right results.

Post-treatment, you’ll stay in the office for another 30-60 minutes to ensure your skin cools down properly. Then, you’re good to go!

What to expect after your first Halo treatment

As your skin rejuvenates itself post-treatment, you can expect:

  • Your skin will look slightly sunburned (that’s the heat doing its job in your skin)
  • Your skin may feel a little tight for a few days (normal)
  • Brown spots to come up to the surface (these will flake off in 4-6 days)

Maintaining your new, radiant skin

The at-home skincare maintenance is very simple for the first few days post-treatment. For the first week post-treatment:

  • Do not apply any makeup to your face
  • Only use a basic cleanser and moisturizer (I can recommend some for you after your treatment)

After this first week, you can return to your normal skincare routine. See? It really is a simple, easy treatment!

First steps if you’re new to skincare

If you are new to skincare, haven’t tried our lighter treatments (such as Peels or BBL), or aren’t using high-quality skincare products, Halo might not be the best place to start. I would recommend coming in for a complimentary consultation in our MedSpa to talk about your skin, what products you use (or don’t use), and what results you want.

Each private, one-on-one consultation lasts an hour with either myself or our licensed cosmetologist and esthetician, Alison. We’ll ensure you get your skin to where you want it to be, so don’t hesitate to call us at 513-791-9474 or fill out our consultation form online to get started with us.
