The Truth About Low T in Cincinnati (And How to Fix It)

By William Lovett, M.D.
Men’s health often sits on the back burner as they focus on other important things in their life: kids, grandkids, a career, hobbies, and more. But slowly they realize they are more tired than normal. They can’t keep up with their families. They’ve put on weight even though their eating habits haven’t changed. And don’t even think about sleep; they feel like they always need a nap, but never feel rested after sleeping.
What this boils down to is something very common among aging men: low testosterone (often referred to as “Low T”). As our bodies age, they produce less and less testosterone. In addition, what most men and doctors do not know is that the testosterone receptors in our bodies also do not bind testosterone as well as they used to. This is a double whammy! Without natural testosterone replacement, men are left feeling unhealthy, uninterested in romance, and just plain exhausted.
Understanding low T
Each year, we strive to educate men on how their low T levels are impacting their whole health. This usually takes the form of a Men’s Free Testosterone Health Event, where men can come in for a free blood draw to determine their Free Testosterone levels. We then host a series of presentations where men receive a copy of their report and can discuss symptoms with our providers.
Cincinnati and low T
To understand the prevalence of low T in our local Cincinnati community, we compiled our data from our past two Cincinnati male health events. The outcome looks bleak:
- 61% of men reported fatigue
- 53% reported a decreased libido (sexual interest in their partner)
- 44% reported weight gain
- 40% reported sleep loss
- 39% reported erectile dysfunction (ED) issues (inability to keep erection long enough to experience orgasm)
It’s clear that men are aware of their declining health, but don’t know how to correct it. Let’s break it down by age range, then take a look at the simple solution.
Men ages 40-49
Men in the first bracket of andropause (male menopause) are most concerned about fatigue (66% reported this symptom). They often notice that they are taking more naps or are able to workout less due to feeling more and more tired. They may also experience a mental fog that seems to persist throughout their day.
Their second most reported symptom was decreased libido (58%), with weight gain (47%) coming in third and sleep loss (45%) at a close fourth.
Men ages 50-59
Men in their fifties are also concerned about fatigue (69%). They often report feeling groggy through their day, and may nap more to try and feel more rested. Without treatment, fatigue can persist into a chronic condition.
The second most reported symptom was decreased libido (57%), with sleep loss coming in third (46%).
Men ages 60+
Similar to the men in their 40s and 50s, men aged 60 and older report fatigue as their primary concern (55%). They notice that they need more time to sleep, but often don’t wake feeling rested. They also tire more from daily activities that once didn’t wear them out.
The second biggest concern was decreased libido (50%). This isn’t a surprise, because 39% of men in this age range are not able to achieve an erection well enough to have sex in the first place. It’s no wonder their desire for their partner also tanks at this age.
Weight gain came in at third (44%).
The answer is simple: natural testosterone replacement
Natural testosterone replacement is the use of plant-derived hormones that are chemically-identical to the hormones that your body once produced. They alleviate symptoms associated with low T, because your testosterone levels are naturally raised with HRT pellets. To learn more about our testosterone therapy, check out the blog post from our RN, Rick, about the safety of testosterone pellets.
