The 3 Most-Asked CoolSculpting Questions: What You Need to Know
By Alison Clay, Licensed Cosmetologist & Esthetician
CoolSculpting is one of our MedSpa’s largest services, so naturally, we receive a lot of questions about this trendy service. If you’ve heard about this service but still have some reservations about trying it yourself, keep reading. I’m here today to talk about the biggest CoolSculpting questions we hear so you can feel confident about choosing the best service for you!
1. Is CoolSculpting safe?
This is the #1 CoolSculpting question we hear in our office and on Facebook. The answer is: yes! The FDA cleared and approved CoolSculpting and its’ use of cold temperatures to eliminate unwanted fat cells. It’s non-invasive, needs no anesthesia, and requires little-to-no downtime.
The applicators themselves actually have safety measures built in. The smart technology uses sensors in the applicators to detect if the skin is getting too cold too quickly. If this happens, the applicators will automatically shut down and the machine stops.
2. Are CoolSculpting results permanent?
This is a common question we hear because everyone wants an easy, hassle-free solution to stubborn fat. The answer is yes, with a healthy lifestyle, CoolSculpting results are permanent. This means you should develop or maintain healthy eating habits and regular exercise to keep results, or your fat cells could expand.
How this works:
During CoolSculpting, we permanently eliminate up to 25% of fat cells in a treated area. These cells shrivel and are eliminated from the body, allowing you to look slimmer in that area. But if you eat unhealthily or stop exercising, the remaining fat cells can become larger.
3. Will I lose weight?
You may lose 1-3 pounds, but weight loss doesn’t always occur. Fat cells don’t actually weigh a lot which is why CoolSculpting is not advertised as a weight loss solution. When we eliminate cells, we reduce their size and volume. This helps reduce the appearance of stubborn fat, but probably won’t change your weight number much, if at all.
Instead, if you’re looking to lose 5-30% of your body weight, I suggest looking into working with Alyssa, our Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. If you are within 10-15 lbs of your goal weight, that’s when we recommend CoolSculpting.
