Benefits of High Testosterone

What are the benefits of high testosterone in men and what are some ways to increase testosterone levels? We’ll be answering these and more for you today! This is actually part three of a three-part series on testosterone for men.

In part one, we talked about the symptoms of low testosterone. Part two covered how we treat low testosterone. Today, in part three, we’re going to discuss how life can look after you’ve received hormone replacement therapy! Let’s jump in.

By Dr. Lovett, Director of YWC

3 or 4 Weeks in You’ll Start to Feel Changes From Testosterone Therapy

What typically happens is about 3-4 weeks after we start patients on hormone replacement therapy, they start to feel “something.” When I go to see these patients at this point for their first follow-up appointment, I want to hear back from them – “I’m starting to feel, ‘Blank.'”

That “blank” is different for everyone. I’ll take a look at their initial complaint sheet from when they first came in and go through it one by one. I ask them, “So, you complained of aches and pains. You talked about lethargy, apathy, and fatigue.” We go through all of the initial symptoms that brought them into the office and see where each of them sits now. All I really want to hear at this point is, “I’m maybe starting to feel better.”

I do not expect anyone to feel 100% better about all of their complaints or symptoms at the one-month mark. This is because as we get older, two things happen:

  1. Our hormones drop off or even actually go away completely.
  2. Secondly, the binding sites in our body (meaning the sites that bind our hormones together and keep them locked within our bodies) that made us feel good when we were 18 or 20 years old just don’t bind like they used to.

After this initial period, we just want to see gradual improvement and that something positive is happening within the body. You won’t see all the benefits of high testosterone levels just yet. We do some initial lab follow-ups around this time as well to see where those levels sit and gauge any positive changes or growth.

3 Months in You’ll Notice a Big Difference

What’s exciting is when we get to see you two or three months out (everyone’s body absorbs the pellets differently, so the range is anywhere from 2-4 months). This is the time when things really start to peak. Whereas before you maybe only felt “something,” now you should be feeling major positive shifts in a lot of your initial symptoms.

From there we can start to adjust the timing of your pellet insertions and get into a rhythm of how often you’ll need them. We typically time your insertions so that your new pellets go in as your levels begin to drop again, but not before they’re gone completely.

What We Will Expect

So what do we look for? Well, I don’t expect you to be perfect. I do not expect you to be an 18-year-old again, but I do try to roll you back about 10 to 15 years. So think of where you are today. What would it be like to be 10 to 15 years more active or feel like you were 10 or 15 years younger than you are today? For everyone, again, that answer looks different. The one thing that most can agree on, however, is that they want to feel younger.

Your Age Didn’t Change, But Everything Feels Better

Now, I didn’t change your age. Your age is still the same, but maybe now you have more energy or you’re sleeping better. You feel like you can run around with the kids or grandkids. Maybe you notice that you’re hiking further or your joints don’t hurt anymore. Your strength’s increasing and you can do more in the gym. Perhaps you had lost that motivation to get to the gym, but now you’re actually excited and looking forward to it.

You can do some of the things you haven’t been able to do for a while. These are the benefits of high testosterone. When your hormones are at optimal, balanced levels, your emotional and physical states begin to reflect that.

Make the First Step Toward Optimal Living

All of these positive changes can happen, but you have to be the one to make that first move. Fill out our initial consultation form here and one of our staff or providers will be in touch within 24-48 business hours to get you started with our program. We’ll answer any of your questions, get some initial blood work done, and then bring you in for a consultation with one of our providers.

I tell people all the time – it is just you filling out a consultation form, getting a blood draw, and coming in for a consultation. Then the decision of what to do after that is up to you. At least get educated based on facts about what’s going on in your body, specifically. Our hormone replacement therapy program here is individualized. This is not a franchise. We aren’t some practice out there that has dug up an algorithm of exactly, “This is how we’re going to treat everyone, every time.” Every patient that comes in is very, very different. We treat the patient, not the numbers.

We hope this in-depth breakdown has been helpful or enlightening and we hope to hear from you soon. Again, if you missed the first parts of this “testosterone for men” series, check those out using the links below:
