Avoidance of Estrogen Replacement in Women who had Hysterectomies may result in Lost Lives

A published report from the American Journal of Public Health in September 2013 showed that over 10 years as many as 91,610 unnecessary deaths have occurred in women that had hysterectomies between the ages of 50-69 because they did not receive estrogen replacement after surgery.

The study suggests that the reason is the fear of Estrogen Replacement and risk of increased cancer that was published in the 2002 Women’s Health Initiative (WHI). The WHI study proved that Synthetic Progesterone (Provera) which is a Progestin caused the increased breast cancer risk, not the Estrogen. But many physicians lump all hormones into the same box. The WHI study showed that in the group that only received Estrogen, there was a decreased risk of breast cancer, heart disease, and all-cause mortality over the course of the study.

YWC Commentary

Synthetic Estrogen in the form of Premarin has not shown any increased breast cancer risk when used for 10-years after Menopause due to aging or surgical hysterectomy. After 10-years, Premarin has shown increased breast cancer risk.

Natural Bio-Identical Estrogen has not shown the same increased risk even after 10-years of use. This is one reason Your Wellness center only uses Natural Bio-Identical Estrogen.
